Issue 152: Refactor platform-specific code to open URLs on Linux

Reported by Thomas Keller, Mar 14, 2011

xdg-open (specified by the freedesktop organization) is the
preferred way to open files and urls with the registered application
on Linux, so kfmclient-exec and gnome-open don't need to be called
directly. Furthermore it does not make the code break in
non-Gnome/KDE window managers.
